On Friday in the studio we hosted Birmingham born actor Duane Henry. Duane has recently been signed as a regular cast member on award winning US drama NCIS as offbeat Officer Clayton Reeves.
Having spent the past three years living in Los Angeles, attending auditions and trying to hit the big time, Duane returned to his hometown of Birmingham last week as a success story. It has taken him 13 years, two major relocations and a bout of homelessness to have his dream realised but Duane never gave up, he tells us,
“For me, resistance creates muscle, pressure creates diamonds, it’s all perception.”
Duane spent the evening with us giving an inspiring talk to young creatives who might want to follow in his path, encouraging young actors to never give up on their aspirations in the face of adversity and to “learn to run with scissors”.
The talk was followed by a question and answer session where young creatives asked everything from how to break into the industry to what Duane’s next big gig might be. As a final question Duane was asked what advice he would give to an aspiring young actor who keeps getting knocked back, his answer,
“whatever you give me I will use it, the more no’s you give me the further I will go…use that”.
ITV News Central’s Genelle Aldred was on site to interview Duane and cover the event. If you missed out on the chance to meet Duane Henry at ACE space then you can catch up on ITV Central news later in the week.
