Meet Christopher Radford, TEN Company Dancer

Christopher Radford

Where are you from and what is your professional background?

I am from Birmingham and was part of ACE’s youth company from the age of 8. I trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, and have performed and taught both nationally and internationally with companies such as Scottish Dance Theatre, Corey Baker Dance, Rosie Kay Dance Company, Heather Walrond Dance Company.

When did you know, you wanted to dance professionally? What drew you to dance?

I didn’t know I wanted to dance professionally until I actually finished my foundation course at Northern and moved into first year. Before NSCD I was an I.T technician. Loved Northern so much I couldn’t stop!

What made you want to work with ACE dance and music?

Having been with them for so many years, the way they work and the passion behind the scenes is truly inspiring. Love teaching and performing with them as it very much suits my style of movement.

During TEN tour, which performance has been your favourite and why?

Swindon.. I feel it was my best, most powerful/confident performance… Very freeing ! And good as I had some family there too.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Yes, 1 .. but I try not to let people know.
What are the key things to remember whilst performing?

Own the stage. Believe in yourself. Live every moment.

What is it like to be in a professional company?

Tiring but rewarding, and great fun.
What advice would you give to aspiring dancers who are beginning their journey?

Positivity is key. Self-belief is essential. And a smile goes a long way.
