The ACE studio was brimming with energy on Monday, 11th April, with the start of an exciting week of research and development led by choreographer Jose Agudo, who will be choreographing ACE dance and music’s upcoming dance production, TEN.
Jose and the team have been working on a range of exciting ideas and movements, which will form new material for the concept.
Participating dancers have come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and will gain valuable experience working with Jose throughout the intense week of Research and Development. Some dancers regularly work with ACE and others have travelled from as far as South Africa to take part in this week’s sessions, which involve both movement exploration and creative exploration within contemporary dance.
Members of ACE Youth, ACE dance and music’s youth company, were also participating in Monday’s session, an incredible opportunity for them to work alongside professional dancers and Jose.
When asked what it was like working with Jose, ACE Youth member, Chanelle Harris, said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere, everyone was really engaged.”
For ACE’s tenth dance production, Jose will be bringing his flamenco roots together with ACE dance and music’s signature Afro-Fusion style to create a thought provoking and visually inspiring piece exploring the concepts of power and the fragility of life.
Jose can be overheard telling the group: “I’m interested in Exodus, plagues; empires building and then disappearing. This constant cycle of creation and destruction.”
