ACE dance and music directors Gail and Ian talk about the next few months

ACE dance and music have an exciting few months ahead and we sincerely hope you will be able to come along and join in.

Education is central to our ethos at ACE dance and music and since becoming an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation in April 2012, we have been very busy concentrating on our education outreach programme. This season is no exception with a wide variety of activity on offer.

ACE dance and music are now part of a European youth dance network: Dance=Désir and our own celebrated youth dance company ACE Youth are going from strength to strength. May and June have  seen ACE Youth perform at Birmingham Town Hall for the International Dance Festival, for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Torch Relay both with Sampad, and at London’s RichMix with Shoreditch Youth Dance. We are pleased to announce that in July 2012 ACE Youth have been chosen by Youth Dance England’s National Young Dance Ambassadors to perform as part of the U.Dance 2012 Festival in London. Then, later in July ACE Youth will be on tour to Amsterdam for a second exchange programme with our friends Untold: a Dutch dance and drumming empowerment organisation.Watch footage from the previous exchange here. ACE Youth also hope to go to Switzerland in October – more details to come!

In June we began our adults’ community performance project Impulse, working with Senegalese artists Landing Mané and KhalifaConte of JamoJamo Arts. The project offers weekly West African dance and drumming classes for adults at our studio the Link Dance Space. These energetic classes run all the way until September, and there will be regular performance opportunities too, so if you know anyone who you think would like to come and take part then please tell them about us. A key performance as part of this project will be Pulse and Beats at mac on Saturday 18th August; it promises to be an evening full of summer vibes and lively performance, so if you’re more comfortable sitting in the auditorium than being on stage then this is the event for you – come along for a guaranteed feel-good time!

Directors Gail and Ian Parmel have also been busy making connections with International artists in preparation for our next touring production Manafor 2013-14 (watch this space!) and recently returned from a 2 week visit to South Africa to meet with Vuyani Dance Theatre and other exciting artists.

Finally, if you fancy yourself as a bit of an ACE supporter then you might be interested in getting involved in our Friends of ACE (FACE) Group. Our parents and friends get together with ACE staff over an informal brunch once a term to offer fundraising ideas, marketing support and general know-how, so if you would like to get involved and support our charity then you can email info@acedanceandmusic.com to get your invite to our next meeting.

We look forward to seeing you very soon.
