ACE Space Dance Studio Officially Launched in Birmingham’s Creative District

Birmingham-based professional dance company, ACE dance and music, officially launched their newly refurbished dance studio and performance venue on Thursday, May 14th, during an exciting and inspiring evening of live performances and speeches from key figures in the creative industry.

Guests at the launch were left inspired by the very first public performances at ACE Space, which included beautiful dance pieces by ACE Professional Company, Chris Radford, and ACE Youth. There was also a stunning musical set by former students, Mahalia Burkmar and Azizi Cole, showcasing the versatility of the stunning new performance venue.

ACE Space, is the result of the ACE dance and music’s long term ambition to build a multi-purpose space within the innovative Digbeth community.  ACE Space will allow the team to expand and improve their existing programme, secure additional trading income from hires and space rentals, and add to the Birmingham’s growing stock of high-spec rehearsal spaces and venues.

The evening was also an opportunity to celebrate the success of ACE dance and music, which was founded 18 years ago by Creative Directors, Gail and Ian Parmel. Their hard work, passion and determination were revered by all of the key note speakers at the launch event, who included former student and now successful actress, Cherelle Skeete; Chair of the Board, Paul Udenze; Ed Collier of The Bond Company; Dawn Ashman, Director of Creative Industries at Arts Council; Michaela Waldram-Jones, Producer at ACE Dance & Music, and Iona Waite, Education Officer at ACE Dance & Music.

It was an emotional evening for Creative Director, Gail Parmel: “I was truly honoured and overwhelmed by the number of people who came to support ACE dance and music and the launch of our newly refurbished space ACE Space. It was an emotional and inspirational evening, and it’s an exciting time to be Artistic Director of ACE dance and music!  I am excited about the prospect of creating real opportunities for the arts sector – to develop, create and present work.”

“Our launch event was a great opportunity for people to hear and see our story, and to know that the space is there to create more artists;  showcase work and help bring even more people to Digbeth, Birmingham’s growing creative district.

“With ACE Space, I hope that we can make it that little bit easier for the next generation of artists coming through to grow and flourish. We want this space to be a vibrant home for the emerging artists in the region and further afield.”

“It’s extremely difficult to find words to describe how it really feels. After several years of dedicated fund raising, I feel so fulfilled that we have achieved our ambition, knowing that ACE Space is here for everyone to use and to inspire people to achieve!”
