Chelsea Gordon is one of our ACE youth graduates who we are proud to announce, has recently been offered a position at both Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Dance and Music and London School of Contemporary Dance.
Chelsea started with ACE youth in October 2013 having a small amount of experience with dance, taking part in contemporary dance classes on Saturdays. She tells us that she always had an interest in dance, having grown up learning Street Dance from watching music videos as a child. Chelsea never really saw dance as a career option until she was 16 when she was inspired by the staff at ACE to take her talent further.
‘We got to go to Switzerland and collaborated with a company Virevolte, we made a piece with them and got to perform. The piece was called Who Are We? . ACE inspired me to dance professionally… with all the performances that we did, I could see myself performing full time.’
ACE prides itself on nurturing and guiding young people in recognising their abilities in dance, which they may not have found until joining ACE youth. ACE Youth has become a unique platform for young dancers, which leads them to be in the position, like Chelsea, of being offered positions at established dance schools.
‘It’s just one big family, you are really supported. Everyone tries to push you and make you a better person even if you don’t see dance as a career. It’s a lot of fun and you learn a lot about yourself. I would encourage anyone join ACE youth.’
Chelsea’s aim after graduating is to join a performing company, “as a bonus”, she tells us, “I would like to tour Europe… maybe even the world!”. She would also love to come back to ACE and teach or take part in professional classes. We wish her every success in the future and look forward to more success stories from our ACE youth recruits.
