Qudus Onikeku’s Residency at ACE dance and music

ACE dance and music are pleased to welcome international dance artist and choreographer Qudus Onikeku into their space from Wednesday 22nd to Saturday 25th May 2019.

Qudus Onikeku was born in Lagos, Nigeria. At the age of 5 years he started to develop his acrobatic skills and later discovered his love of dance at the age of 13. In 2009, he graduated from École supérieure des Arts du Cirque in Brussels, with a special interest in acro-dance.

His movement vocabulary is informed by a variety of dance styles which include Hip Hop, Capoeira, Tai Chi and Contemporary whilst keeping his Yoruba traditional philosophy at the heart of everything he does. Onikeku draws his influences from his life experiences and interprets the stories of others by investigating new dance forms and expression.

He has gone on to form ‘Qdance Company’ which creates internationally renowned works and has toured globally over the last decade with company dancers, musicians and Onikeku as Artistic Director. The company has been commissioned and performed at major international festivals and venues, some of which include: Kalamata Dance Festival (Greece), Correios Em Mouvemente (Brazil), Jomba Dance Festival (South Africa), Nyoba Kan Butoh Festival (Malaysia), as well as touring in over 50 countries around the world.

As part of this residency, we will be offering the following classes to professional dancers in the region:

Wednesday 22nd– Friday 24th May 2019
Morning Class / 10am-11.30am / £5 per class
