ACE Youth is the youth dance company of ACE dance and music. ACE Youth regularly perform in their own right at festivals and theatres and tour their work nationally and internationally. Formed in 1998, they are a group of talented young people from in and around Birmingham, between 11 and 21 years old. Trained under the artistic eye of Gail Parmel, ACE Youth promotes confidence and understanding in young artists and communities through the appreciation of African and Caribbean culture, dance and music. ACE Youth demonstrate a growing reputation for exciting, physical, challenging work.
ACE Youth are unique in their field of youth dance. In Britain today there is very little provision for the contemporary African dance form within youth dance; ACE Youth seek to bridge the gap for young people between traditional African dance and modern hip-hop inspired movement, with something artistically rigorous. They train in contemporary, ballet, African and street style dance. Many of our members have gone on to study as professional dancers, with 16 ACE Youth Alumni having trained or currently training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and London Contemporary Dance School. ACE Youth specialises in providing the necessary link between formative and professional dance.
ACE Youth have undertaken a large and varied body of work and represent innovative creative youth development, regionally, nationally and now increasingly internationally. They are at the forefront of excellence in European Youth Dance, and alongside ‘Virevolte’ (Switzerland), ‘Untold’ (Holland) and ‘Les Ballets St Étienne’ (France) are part of a fledgling European Youth Dance Network: Dance=Desir.
We are always looking for new recruits at ACE Youth so if you are aged between 13-19 years old, come along for dance training and learn techniques in a variety of styles from our friendly team.
New recruits is a feeder into ACE Youth Performing Company.
ACE Youth Performing Company tour both nationally and internationally and have developed a growing reputation for exciting, physical, challenging work.

I always look forward to Thursdays because of ACE. I love training with highly energetic dancers and very approachable teachers. We are a big family driven by the same passion - dance. Our desire to perform connects us and motivates everyone to reach our full potential. The high standard of training will help me pursue my dream of becoming a professional dancer while the discipline I acquire will keep me grounded and humble throughout my dance career.

Dance pushes me, even if I don’t pick up the movement it’s all about trying hard. Coming to ace has taught me that you can succeed in anything as long as you push yourself.

I go to Ace to learn new techniques, to improve and progress as a dancer and to perform with an awe inspiring group of dancers. The environment here in Ace is so powerfully driven with their passion for dance and there is an audible thirst for more within the classes, everyone is so kind and fun to dance with and everyone is just as determined to improve as individuals as they are as a group. I absolutely adore the classes, the experiences and the people I have met; I feel challenged with each class and performing with Ace as part of the Youth New Recruits for the first time was an unprecedented experience for me; I hope I can experience many more of these events in the near future! Ace is amazing.

I come to Ace Youth because I want to dance and everyone is so friendly and helpful. Ace Youth is great because they never give up on me and help me to do the best I can. The thing I enjoy most is taking a bow at the end of a performance; it makes me feel happy and proud to be a dancer.

I go to ace because it like my second home, it is the only place where I actually feel comfortable with myself. We’re like a family, although we dance together and perform together, we also are able to confide with each other and open up which I think is amazing. I learn so much at ace whether it’s the intellectual side or practical. I love coming to ACE and I don’t think I would have it any other way.
